Description

In recent years, a new regulatory framework and advanced technologies have changed the way energy grids are operated. Now, more than ever, a more efficient operation of distribution grids is needed to confront the new challenges faced by modern society and its infrastructures.
In this book, some concepts and methodologies developed in a pluri-technological sector, such as power systems, are shown to be effective in other realms. Different energy infrastructures share the same needs for more automation, optimization in operations, tools for planning and integration between multiple energy carriers to achieve better performances and efficiency.
This book, starting from the Smart Grids experience, introduces the concept of Smart Cities, as we know it today, and goes on to discuss current technological networks and energy distribution grids.
The authors focus on tangible grids, due to their physical durability, and emphasize the need for effective technologies, integration of multiple energy-carriers and incisive policies to foster the transformation of current business models.
